One of Kona’s finest keiki athletes needs the community’s support for one of the highest youth athletic honors.
Eleven-year-old Ayden Valentin is currently entered in NFL quarterback Russell Wilson’s Youth Athlete of the Year competition, which is in partnership with Sports Illustrated, V Foundation, 3Brand and the Why Not You Foundation. Valentin has finished as one of the top-five finalists in his group, and his participation in this competition highlights his role in benefitting these foundations for cancer research.
The winner will receive $25,000 and a feature on an upcoming 3Brand ad for Sports Illustrated. Valentin has played quarterback in tackle and flag football for the West Side Eagles, Steelers and Koamana. Additionally, the young standout has won state and regional titles in tackle.
When it comes to playing sports, Valentin enjoys making new friends and the thrill of competition. A few years ago, Valentin was going through a mental health situation, but credits sports for helping him find a true passion. Valentin also thanks his father, Gabe Valentin, for being a crutch of support throughout his journey.
Ayden Valentin currently leads his age-group voting, but needs the community’s help for ensuring he becomes a finalist.
