A 41-year-old 91Ö±²¥an Paradise Park man was arrested and charged after an incident Sunday fronting an Old Volcano Road residence in Keaau.

Francis Lagat Piloton was arrested after his 48-year-old girlfriend reportedly told officers he threatened her and discharged a shotgun.

Officers reportedly recovered a loaded, semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun with a defaced serial number, a glass smoking pipe, and a clear baggie containing a white crystalline substance which tested positive for methamphetamine.

Piloton was charged with first-degree terroristic threatening, illegally carrying a loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, altering the identification marks of a firearm, and methamphetamine possession.

At Piloton’s initial court appearance Monday, Hilo District Judge Kanani Laubach maintained his bail at $226,000 and ordered him to return to court today for a preliminary hearing.

The most serious offenses, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and illegally carrying a loaded firearm, are Class B felony offenses and with a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment.

Piloton remains in custody at 91Ö±²¥ Community Correctional Center.
