A number of BIIF baseball and softball games occurred over the weekend to close out another week of matchups.
On Saturday, Emalia Emmsley drove in seven runs on four hits to catapult Honoka‘a softball to a 21-6 win at home. She hit a home run to right field in the field inning, which scored three runs. Emmsley then secured a two-run triple in the following inning, and then logged an RBI double in the third.
Teammate Jaycia Silva added three hits, while Keilee Dacquel, Kayliah Kauahi, Kana‘i Tolentino, Keira Agdeppa and Akira Lapanid each logged multiple hits. In total, the Dragons had 19 hits to the Cowgirls’ seven.
Kauahi was the game’s winning pitcher, striking out five in 4.0 innings in the circle.
Per the BIIF schedule released, both teams will take this week off. Honoka‘a improved to 5-0, while Kohala dropped to 0-4.
In Kea‘au, Kamehameha-91Ö±²¥ baseball won its fourth straight game after shutting out Hilo 6-0 on Saturday, improving to 6-2. During the Warriors’ four-game win streak, they have outscored opponents 56-1.
The Vikings dropped to 2-3.
Of KSH’s nine base hits, Dayton Hanson and Eriz Passi logged two each to lead the team. Teammates Brock Ayudan, Hunter Yamamoto, Kaikoa Nobriga, Eli Mercado and Haez Coloma each had one hit.
On the mound, Yamamoto was the game’s winning pitcher after allowing no runs over 5.0 innings. Nobriga closed the final two innings.
Kainui Keopuhiwa, Logan Schlueter, Hunter Pangelinan, Liam Villanueva and Liam Roddy made up Hilo’s five hits with one each. Tyson Santiago and Keopuhiwa shared time on the mound.
KSH will next face Konawaena on Friday, while Hilo takes on Kealakehe in Kona this afternoon.
On Friday in Pahala, 91Ö±²¥ Prep won an 8-6 battle in extras over Ka‘u, clinching its seventh win of the season. The Trojans fell to 3-4.
Down 3-0 heading into the fourth inning, HPA responded by scoring eight runs in the final five innings.
The victorious red and white logged seven hits — led by Ed Lustik with two. Teammates Leon Kikukawa, Josh Lee, Owen Smith, Wyley Ament and Carson Hoover secured one hit each.
Lustik was also the game’s winning pitcher after striking out eight over 4.0 innings. Anderson also got some burn, striking out four across 50 pitches.
Caleb Crook led Ka‘u with a homer, while teammate Davin Lanjid added two hits. Devin Alpin, Ian Beck, Canaan Crook, Kamahao Alcoran, Elliot Grimm and Eli Crook each had one hit.
Caleb Crook and Eli Crook were the Trojans’ two pitchers that saw action.
Outscoring opponents 75-16, Ka Makani will look to keep rolling against Honoka‘a in a North 91Ö±²¥ rematch on Wednesday on the Hamakua Coast. When the two teams last met in March, the Dragons won 7-0.
Ka‘u will take on Kohala on Wednesday at home. The Trojans are 1-0 against the Cowboys this season.
Honoka‘a baseball stayed perfect after a 1-0 run rule of Pahoa on Friday at home, improving to a BIIF-best 6-0. The Daggers, still in search of their first win, dropped to 0-5.
Catcher Chrys Coelho led Honoka‘a with three RBI, including a homer. Teammates Isaac DeRego and Laiku Lindsey logged two hits each, while Kiakahi Lindsey, Jerremyah Umeda and Daniel Salazar had one apiece.
Rory Crabbe was the Dragons’ winning pitcher after allowing no hits and no runs over 2.0 innings. Jayden Salazar and Kamalaa Kaae-Petrie also saw some time pitching.
With an impressive 65-2 scoring margin, Honoka‘a has five shutout wins this season.
Konawaena baseball won an 11-1 run rule over Kea‘au on Friday. The paper was unable to find the score for the softball game between the two schools.
