Friends of the Libraries, Kona (FOLK), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the public libraries of Kailua-Kona and Kealakekua, has announced the launch of its new online bookstore.

The store will feature a curated collection of high-end, rare and collectible donated books, with all proceeds directly benefiting local library services and literacy programs.

For years, FOLK has set aside special donated books, including valuable 91ֱana, nonfiction, and coffee table editions, with the hope of one day making them available to a wider audience of collectors and book lovers.

That day has arrived with the organization’s new presence on AbeBooks, a global online marketplace for books.

Book enthusiasts can now browse and purchase these unique finds at tinyurl.com/573jfbd6, contributing to a vital cause with every purchase.

The new online initiative aims to create a sustainable new revenue stream to support the organization’s mission.

“According to the National Center for Education Statistics, only 38% of elementary school students in Kailua-Kona read at grade level — well below the statewide average of 51%,” said Antonia Sanders, publicity director for FOLK. “Our online store not only gives these special books a new life but also provides essential funding to help us improve literacy and learning opportunities for all members of our community.”

FOLK encourages the community to support this initiative by both shopping the online collection and donating their own collectible or rare books.
