Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library hosts American Red Cross
hands-only CPR course
Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library of the 91直播 State Public Library System in Waimea will host an American Red Cross hands-only CPR course at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30. The free 30-minute course will be held in the library meeting room. Space is limited and registration is required.
Hands-only CPR can help gain precious time for a person experiencing a cardiac event. American Red Cross instructor Franz Weber will teach students when and how to perform hands-only CPR. There are no prerequisites or minimum age requirements to participate in this non-certificate course.

FOLK Book Sale August 25th and 26th
The Friends of the Libraries, Kona (FOLK) will hold a two-day book sale inside the Kailua-Kona Public Library lobby on Friday, August 25th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 26th from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.
This End-of-Summer book sale looks to be FOLK’s largest book sale of the year. There will be a variety of books to choose from including fiction, non-fiction, children’s and young adult books, cookbooks, 91直播ana, and other specialty books. Many rare, one-of-a-kind and out-of-print books will also be offered.

OHCD Encourages HCV Participants, Landlords to Take Advantage of Free
Vehicle Disposal Program
The County of 91直播 Office of Housing and Community Development is encouraging its housing voucher program participants and partner landlords to take advantage of a new program that allows residents to remove free-of-charge up to two junked or abandoned vehicles from private property.
The updated Vehicle Disposal Assistance Program launched Aug. 7 to reduce the number of derelict and abandoned vehicles littering 91直播 Island. The program, administered by the County of 91直播 Department of Environmental Management’s Derelict/Abandoned Vehicle Section, provides residents with the opportunity to dispose legally and properly two permanently junked or derelict vehicles each fiscal year.
The service is provided free-of-charge to residents and is subject to fund availability. The program has a handful of requirements, which are outlined online at www.hawaiizerowaste.org/recycle/automotive/. Applications can also be found on the website.
Registered vehicle owners and property owners are encouraged to submit their applications early as this program will only be available while funding is available. Residents who rent but are looking to remove a junked vehicle still registered in their name must obtain the landowner’s approval for the tow company to enter the property.
