WAIMEA — The 2026 BIIF track and field season continued this past Saturday in North 91Ö±²¥, as athletes from every corner of the island met to compete during a beautiful day at 91Ö±²¥ Prep’s Stanford W. Shutes Track.
Several Ka Makani athletes represented the hosting school well, as long-distance phenom Jack Soon-Ludes collected wins in the boys 800-meter run (2:07.45) and 1,500-meter run (4:21.35) — in which the season-best 1,500 was timed as the 10th-fastest race in the state this season.
Soon-Ludes was also part of two winning relay teams — the 4×400 with a season-best time of 3:41.61 (Nate Donovan, Micah McDowell, Santino Tribuiano) and the venue-record time of 8:43.93 in the 4×800 (Chihiro Sato, McDowell, Phillip Gerstengarbe). The 4×800 time from Ka Makani’s squad was also the third-fastest recorded time in the state thus far this season.
The HPA girls also turned heads in the girls 4×800, as Naomi DeMille, Kate Schwarting, Tea Kasumovich and Kirra Geesey raced the second-fastest time in the state with a finish of 10:24.53.
Gerstengarbe also found success individually, as the junior raced the second-fastest time in the state in the boys 3,000 — finishing in 9:27.56, almost a minute ahead of second place. The win marked Gerstengarbe’s first individual win of 2026, as he finished second in the event the week prior. A year ago, Gerstengarbe won the 3,000-meter race four times as a sophomore.
Senior speedster Violet Schaut led Konawaena once again, winning the girls 100-meter (12.67s) and 400-meter races (1:00.55). Her 400 time was marked as the third-fastest in 91Ö±²¥ this season.
Schaut was additionally a part of the winning 4×100-meter relay team, as teammates Kaylen Hoag, Jazmin Fillmore and Dasha Called raced alongside her to finish in 49.75 seconds.
Teammate Kea Sanders won the boys 100, racing in 11.22 seconds — good for the 19th-fastest time in the state. It was Sanders’ first time winning the event this season. Two Wildcat brothers, Aden and Paxton Sokham, combined to win a number of races — 200 (22.57s), 400 (49.99s) and the 4×100 (43.62s). Between the pair, the Sokhams have won 13 events this season.
The rest of the long-distance contests were won by the usual stars, as Kealakehe’s Zadie Bolton won the girls 1,500 (5:02.23) and teammate Elisa Childers won the 3,000-meter race (11:42.22).
Kamehameha-91Ö±²¥ had a few stars shine in Waimea, starting with Kahalia Huddleston, who was dominant on the track and in her field events.
Huddleston won the girls 200 (26.68s), long jump (4.54 meters) and was part of the 4×400 relay-winning team of Elie Ayat, Mia Ayat and Alyssa Hudman (4:23.98). The sophomore has won five events so far this season.
Hudman was equally dominant throughout the day, sealing wins in the girls 100-meter hurdles (17.84s), 300-meter hurdles (51.12s) and the triple jump (8.53 meters).
Teammate Judah Kanoa, like usual, won his boys hurdles events — winning the 110 (15.02s) and 300-meter races (39.85s). His finish in the 300 marked a new stadium record. The junior has won seven individual hurdles races this season.
Mari Ontiveros of Kohala also had a strong showing in the field, clinching a stadium record with a throw of 11.83 meters (38-10.00) in the girls shot put. Ontiveros has won all four shot put contests in 2026.
In the high jump, Shaylee Clark of Kealakehe leaped 1.37 meters (4-06.00) to win the girls field, while KSH’s Isaiah Kanae leaped the second-farthest in 91Ö±²¥ this season — leaping 1.88 meters (6-02.25) to win the boys.
In the pole vault, Keiari Weaver took home gold in the girls field after a 3.04-meter launch (10-00.00), which was the fifth-highest vault in the state. In the boys contest, Kaimanamaikalani Bowman clinched his fourth pole vault victory this season after leaping a season-best 4.16 meters (13-08.00), which was third-highest in 91Ö±²¥.
