Conference prepares Big Island communities for disaster response
Early forecasts are predicting a higher-than-normal hurricane season this year.
To help ensure communities across 91直播 Island are prepared to respond, the nonprofit Vibrant 91直播 is hosting a Resilience Training Conference.
The Vibrant 91直播 Resilience Conference will take place Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13, at the University of 91直播 at Hilo. The two-day, in-person training is designed to help more people know what to do and how to work together when disaster comes.
Community leaders, volunteers, health care professionals, nonprofit teams, faith-based organizations and business partners are invited to register for hands-on training in one of six tracks: medical response and first aid, mental health and emotional care, volunteer and donation coordination, shelter operations, long-term recovery, and maintaining food access during disruptions.
Each track is led by seasoned professionals, ensuring participants are guided by real-world experience and leave with a clear understanding of their role, the ability to demonstrate practical response skills, and strong connections to a coordinated team they can rely on when responding to an emergency in their community.
If you’ve ever wondered what your role could be in a disaster, this is a place to start.
