Na Leo TV has opened applications for its spring 2026 Ho‘olono Scholarship, supporting 91直播 Island students pursuing careers in storytelling, journalism, broadcasting and creative media.

Rooted in the 91直播an words ho‘o (“to make”) and lono (“a report or news”), the scholarship encourages young people to turn ideas and experiences into stories that reflect the voices and perspectives of 91直播 Island.

“Every generation deserves the chance to tell its own stories, on their own terms,” Ashley Kierkiewicz, president and CEO of Na Leo TV, said in a press release. “The Ho‘olono Scholarship is our way of supporting young people who feel called to document, question and celebrate our communities through media.”

The scholarship is awarded twice a year and is open to 91直播 Island high school seniors accepted into a college media program, as well as current college students majoring in media-related fields. Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Scholarships are cash awards that range from $1,000 to $2,500.

The application deadline is Friday, April 17, at 5 p.m. Recipients will be notified by Friday, May 1, and will be featured in a Na Leo TV podcast highlighting their creative journeys.

For fall 2025, Na Leo TV awarded four Ho‘olono Scholarships totaling $7,000 to the following students:

• Mari Iwata, studying screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University)

• Kamakanoweo Kekauoha-Schultz, studying 91直播an studies and environmental science at the University of 91直播 at Hilo;

• Hayate Moro, studying digital marketing and finance at University of 91直播 at Hilo;

• Naneaikealaula Thomas, pursuing a master’s degree in heritage management at University of 91直播 at Hilo.
