Two performances of ‘Disposable Nation’ this weekend
In celebration of its 20th anniversary of the first performance created in partnership with Kahilu Theatre in 2006, Prince Dance Institute and Prince Dance Company present “Disposable Nation,” a provocative multimedia dance performance that explores the culture of consumption and its environmental consequences.
The production will be performed at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea at 6 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.
Blending powerful movement, evocative music and striking visual media, “Disposable Nation” invites audiences to reflect on how modern society’s pursuit of progress has shaped the world we live in.
The work challenges viewers to reconsider their relationship with consumption and current social norms and to imagine a more sustainable and intentional future.
“Returning to this work after 20 years is like coming home to a place that is both familiar and yet very different,” Director Angel Prince said in a press release. “The messages in this show are still as relevant now as they were 20 years ago, if not more so, because these same questions are only becoming more urgent to answer.
“It is also beautiful to see how far Prince Dance has come and what a large and thriving performing art community we now have. It’s a gift to still be making art and teaching the next generations of artists and art supporters 20 years later.”
This timely and thought-provoking performance is brought to life by the students and the teaching artists of Prince Dance Institute, whose artistry and dedication highlight the next generation of performers. Through compelling choreography and immersive design, the production offers both a visually stunning experience and a meaningful call to awareness.
